Training on SHG-bank linkage

Training camp for SHGs concludes

 

The five-day residential training programme for the members of the self-help groups (SHG) has concluded in Cooch Behar on Friday. Thirty participants from fifteen social organisations – both male and female - attended the SHG-bank linkage training programme. The National Agricultural Bank for Rural Development (NABARD) sponsored the programme that was organised by the Consortium for Training, Research and Development (CTRD).

 

NABARD's district development manager Mr Debasis Ganguli and CTRD's training director Mr Vijay Krishna conducted the five-day training programme at the Panchayati Raj Training Centre (PRTC) in Cooch Behar.

 

Among the thirty participants there were two from Godhulibazar North East Society for Empowerment of the People.

 

Mr Vijay Krishna said they organised the training programme to teach how to form SHGs, nurturing of SHGs, various aspects of SHG related activities and bank credit linkage.

 

On the fourth day of the programme the vice-president of G-NESEP Mr Debashis Bhaumik and the secretary Mr Partha Pratim Sarkar visited the proceeding of the training. On being requested Mr Partha Pratim Sarkar addressed the trainees over the important role of the SHGs in developing the socio-economic situation.

Godhulibazar North East Society for Empowerment of the People (G-NESEP) was established in the year 2000 by a group of young men and women dedicated and committed to the society. It is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit making voluntary social organisation.

G-NESEP is committed to take a lead role for the protection of human rights, in helping them to meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to explore their potentiality for a better living standard.

G-NESEP is also going ahead through its various programmes to promote equal rights of women and girls and support their full participation in the political, social and economical development initiatives in their localities concerned. Today, G-NESEP has established its identity in the district of Cooch Behar as a leading institution on sustainable development.

NABARD Programme

NABARD’s leadership programme for SHGs

A 20-day awareness and leadership programme for Self Help Groups (SHG) started on 23 August in Cooch Behar district. National Agricultural Bank for Rural Development (NABARD) is the sponsor of the programme and Godhulibazar North East Society for Empowerment of the People (G-NESEP) is the organiser. The programmes are being held at Guriahati, Haribhanga, Ghughumari, Putimari, Matalhat, Okrabari, Gosanimari, Soulmari, Bhetaguri and other places in Cooch Behar district.

At the awareness programme at Guriahati, the district development manager of the NABARD, Mr Debashis Ganguli explained the concept of SHG, its importance in improving rural economy and families’ economical infrastructure. Unity, equality, co-operation and fellow feeling are some of the qualities needed to make a successful SHG, he said. He also replied questions raised by the participating rural women on manufacturing and marketing of products by SHGs.

During the session, a few women SHG members complained of indifference shown by several banks in issuing of loans to the SHGs. The DDM of NABARD assured them that he would look into the matter. Director of G-NESEP Mr Partha Pratim Sarkar, Mr Birendra Roy, Mrs Shikha Barman and Mr Parimal Sarkar too spoke on various aspects of SHG sector. The vice-president of G-NESEP Mr Debashis Bhaumik too attended the programme.
